Jazz holds a special place in the hearts of music lovers in the city. The Kiara Academy of Performing Arts in Bengaluru will present Hong Kong-based artistes Deborah Mannas and Mike Inot, in concert with The Soul Quintet and the Kiara Academy Choral Ensemble.
Coming from an Anglo-Indian background, poet and singer-songwriter Deborah Mannas says “she grew up in traditional India but in an untraditional family.”
Feb 10 2024 to Feb 10 2024 - 5 p.m. An exciting evening of original music and covers of soul, pop, funk, jazz and blues by singing sensation Deborah Mannas from Hong Kong, saxophone virtuoso Mike Inot also from Hong Kong along with the Kiara Choral Ensemble and The Soul Quintet featuring Bangalore's best known artistes, Joshua Costa on Keyboards, Suvankar Ghosh on Lead Guitar, Joshua Lance on Bass Guitar and Vivian Rajan on Drums.
Deborah Mannas is a HR leader in Hong Kong, with over 15 years in leadership positions. She is also a published poet and singer/songwriter, who has produced a solo album with songs she has written and performed, in collaboration with contemporary neo-soul band Hong Kong band, Soul Sessions.
Deborah Mannas is known for her powerful and emotive vocals, and has been performing in her birthplace, Bangalore, India, and in Hong Kong, since she was young. She’s a published poet and singer/songwriter, and her jazz-styled solo album, Deborah Inspired (2018), features songs she wrote herself and performed in collaboration with contemporary neo-soul Hong Kong band Soul Sessions. Since then she has been featured on RTHK radio shows and was the “persona” in the August/September 2018 issue of the Life on Lantau magazine.
Effective 10 July 2017, Debbie Mannas is head of organisation development and talent, Asia at Sun Life. Reporting directly to Jeff Kozan, head of HR and communications, Mannas will be responsible for leading the company’s talent management and talent development programmes across Asia.
“A lot of people tell me that part of the fun watching us is just seeing us and interacting and having a good time,” says Hei Sha drummer Harold Mandel. “It’s like a conversation taking place on stage.”
All the more remarkable when you consider that Hei Sha have been together only since Wan Chai Live festival in 2002 and that they don’t always speak exactly the same language.

Deborah is a singer/songwriter, and one of a very few female solo artists in Hong Kong who has independently produced two original albums, Inspired (2018) and Magician (2019), and several singles since. 2020. Her work is a versatile mix of jazz, soul, funk and pop rock, which she has performed all over Hong Kong. Deborah has been played by Uncle Ray, interviewed on RTHK “The Works”, HKEJ, HK Confidential, Life on Lantau, China News Agency, to name a few. With her versatile, broad range and unique style her voice “catches you on the inside”, as one fan puts it.
Deborah is accompanied by virtuoso musicians: Agnes Kyu on Keys, Tony Rodriguez on Bass, and Patric Fung on drums.
