Twisted Ankle

On the stairs at the top
I saw the bus pull up at its stop
a fifteen minute wait if missed
if that happened I’d be so pissed

so as if to walk on thin air
I stepped on a step that wasn’t there
gravity could not be denied
ankle so sore I almost cried

hobbled to the bus just in time
and here I sit writing this poem
leg elevated on spare seat opposite
lady across not at all impressed
