You speak in monosyllables
between a galaxy of space
I try to fill the silences
of gaping holes words can’t replace

I read your thoughts between the lines
the miles between your sentences
the bleakness of our lives defined
in invisible ink and promises

So let me do us both a kindness
and put us out of this misery
lets move on to something else
you are not my destiny

hedging all your bets, I know
you need your cake and cream and scones
take all I have and want some more

just long enough to catch the eye
in bright red lipstick on your chest
